The 50 Miler 1996
April 8th-13th. A backpack trek to Panimint City then on
to Panimint pass and Hungry Bill's Ranch and Death Valley.
Following in the foot steps of the intrepid settlers and miners of the past
our excursion would take us from Ballart Ghost town in the scorched Panimint
valley 6000 feet up over 10 miles of waterfalls and boulder strewn trails
to the site of the fabulous treasure town of Panimint. We set off on April
8th at 8:30 from Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside and arrived at
our destination at 12:30. We said good-bye to friends and family and turned
our back on civilization. For the following six days we would live as did
the rugged pioneers that originally settled in this inhospitable country.
Our route was to be over Panimint pass. The proprietor at the Ballart store
said the pass was not impassable but we set off to prove him wrong. The following
pictures show a brief bit of the adventure.
