Each scout is expected to display his Scout Spirit in the program and is measured accordingly. Page 47 of the Boy Scout Handbook states "Scout Spirit refers to the effort you make to live up to the ideals of Scouting. The Oath, Law, motto, and slogan serve as everyday guidelines for a good life".
Attendance
- Boy Scout Troop 127 meets every Monday evening at Canyon Community Church and starts promptly at 6:45 PM and adjourns at 8:15 PM.
- Scouts are encouraged to attend all Troop meetings and activities. Regular attendance at Troop meetings is required to participate in any outside-of-meeting activities, such as hikes and campouts.
- Scouts must participate in at least 25% of the outings offered to be eligible for advancement in any rank after Tenderfoot.
Dues / Outing Fees
- Troop 127 dues are $1.00 per week or $5.00 per month whether or not the scout attends the meetings. This is the responsibility of the scout and the parents are encouraged to instruct the scouts to make their payments on a regular basis.
- Scouts that are delinquent in dues payments by one month or more may not participate in the current months outing or receive advancement awards.
- Each month’s outing may require a transportation fee to be paid prior to the outing so that the Troop can provide the necessary transport vehicles. Parents that provide a vehicle for the outing are not required to pay the outing fee and may submit a fuel receipt following the outing for reimbursement.
Discipline
- Boy Scouts are expected to exercise self-control while on outings, at meetings
and when in uniform. The Patrol Method of Scouting is the model Troop 127
uses to organize, carryout tasks and also to deal with discipline issues within
the Troop. Should there be a problem, the Patrol Leader addresses the issue
with the Patrol Advisor to see if it can be corrected at this level. If not,
then it is passed up the chain of command to the Scoutmaster for review and
corrective action. Many of the Troop’s day to day problems can be worked out
in this manner.
- Parents are involved in discussions with the Scoutmaster immediately following
incidents that pertain to safety, conduct not becoming to a Christian and
violations of the law.
- The Scoutmaster will counsel the scout with the intention of correcting
the problem, however should the scout not respond appropriately and after
notifying the parents, the scout will be asked to leave the program.
- This discipline policy is necessary but it is our hope that the need to
enforce it is rare. The Scoutmaster has the final word on any depute that
may arise as a result of this policy.
